Tourists and T-shirts
Our trip to Vietnam is now a month away. While at work and elsewhere I often find myself thinking of previous trips there to build a frame of mind for this next trip. For some reason, I can't get the t-shirts out of my mind. There are t-shirt vendors everywhere. In the middle of the jungle you can run across a café selling t-shirts and Coca-cola. Anyway, in Saigon the t-shirt vendors are ubiquitous. Among American slogans and pop culture stuff one can find on t-shirts, vendors will also have shirts with the communist star and also some with a picture of Ho Chi Minh (Uncle Ho) on the front or back or both.
You can always tell a tourist. They are the only ones dumb enough to buy a shirt with the communist star or one with Ho Chi Minh. In all the times I've visited Vietnam, did I ever see a Vietnamese wear a t-shirt with the communist star or one with Ho Chi Minh on it. It brings a smile to me while I work and think about it. The locals just don't wear that stuff.
